8 Questions: Mosey West

a3480394398_10We’re kicking off a new feature called 8 Questions and our inaugural guest is Adam Brown, guitarist and vocalist for Mosey West. The Fort Collins, Colorado unit just released their third EP, Bermuda, last month. I’ll attest to the EP being quite the keeper, as are the band’s first two releases.

BFoN: Favorite instrument

AB: Fender Rhodes. We used one on a couple songs on Bermuda. We ran it through an overdrive pedal to get some dark but still vintage sounds.

BFoN: Favorite book

AB: I don’t have a favorite book, but lately I’ve been reading a lot of short stories by Kurt Vonnegut. I really like Charles Bukowski, Chuck Palahniuk and Cormac McCarthy — plus he is from Texas.

BFoN: Musical influences

AB: Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Pavement, Replacements and Fleetwood Mac.

BFoN: Favorite album of 2013

AB: Kurt Vile – Wakin on a Pretty Daze

BFoN: Star Wars or Star Trek

AB: Star Wars. I loved it when I was a kid and there’s lots of Wookies that now reside in Colorado.

BFoN: Which member of the band is most like a Spinal Tap character

AB: Max Barcelow (drums). He has the most leather.

BFoN: First album you purchased

AB: I remember skateboarding to the record store and buying Smashing Pumpkins – Pisces Iscariot on CD in the sixth grade.

BFoN: Origin of your band’s name

AB: We were called “The Living Rooms” and that name was taken, plus it really just sucked as a band name. Evan Reeves, the producer of our first EP suggested the name Mosey. That was taken by a European DJ so we chose the name Mosey West and we mastered the EP with that name and released our first EP, Vaca Money.

Thanks to Adam for helping kick off 8 Questions. Stream/purchase Mosey West’s latest EP, Bermuda, below. With its mix of blues, twang and jangly guitars Mosey West distill the last five decades of rock music into the EP’s six songs. Highly recommended.
